Oh my god, yes.

Dear Past Me,

My god, you were full of mistakes and regrets. Look at you. You look so inexplicably broken. I wish I could go back in time, bandage you up, and promise you that it gets better.

We do get better, you know. I know you can’t see it now past the things that you feel and the way your life is. Depending on how old you are, things are looking pretty bleak and your scars are thick enough and numerous enough to color a whole book in red. But we get better.

We get older, but we don’t grow up. We only get wiser. We never lose that imagination that made us so unique and special. In fact, we find a dynamic that allows us to embrace it rather than run from it.

Also, tickling isn’t weird anymore. Quite the opposite. Lots of people like it, and you are getting tickled daily, my friend. Daily. By someone who loves you more than the moon and the stars.

Did you hear that? You are capable of being loved. You are not worthless. You are enough. You are more than enough.

You have so many people in your life that love and support you. You are well-liked and turned to in times of trouble. Your relationship has set a standard for happily ever afters. You are living a fairy tale.

You are not the scared little girl who hides behind the shut door, listening to the screams, feeling the hands on your inner thighs as he tries to force himself inside you, making the cuts on your stomach so no one can see them but you, wondering if Mommy is going to wake up today or sleep through the afternoon again.

Now, you are a warrior.

I love you, Past Me. And you will too. I swear.

Dear Person,

I just found out that we could have been a thing. How amusing is that? All these years go by and here you are telling me that had things happened differently, we may in fact have been a thing through high school.

I cannot help but laugh at that due to the fact that now you are one of my best friends who I want nothing but happiness for. Though, to be honest, I am glad we did not become a thing. We are close friends and if we had become partners, I never would have found the love of my life. I am so grateful to have found her that I do not regret not having tried with you. I love you and will always love you, but we were not meant to be.

You are an incredible human being and I am so proud of you for what you are doing as of late. You have had a few bumps in the road but you have always recovered. I will always be around for you and know that you will always be there for me. I am glad that you like Belle and say that she matches me perfectly. I am glad that you two get along. I hope to talk with you more and that you and Belle get closer too.

Nothing would make me happier than knowing that you too are happy.

With love,

I am actually sobbing.

Saw my all time favourite dress. Great opportunity to shoot some close-ups!

Dear Future Me,

Please don’t have let people walk over you your whole life. Please tell me that you’ve found your back bone, found your wings, and grown further into the beautiful, confident woman I’m working towards now.

Give your stomach a pat if there’s a baby in there for me. I’m looking forward to meeting them. If I already have a child, please hug him or her close and tell them I’m on the way.

I want you to take a second now and grab Beast close, examine the ring on your left hand, and give him a huge kiss. I know that he’ll have made it this far with me, and I’ll be happy with him. I don’t doubt that for one second. Tell me that even though back here in the present things are bumpy for us, that it’ll get better. I know it will.

I hope you’re still a teacher of some kind. Or at least working with children. You better have gone back to graduate school like you promised.

Tell me we still live in New England. I can never leave this place. But I wouldn’t mind if we were living in my grandmother’s house, or if we moved to New Hampshire.

Mostly, just thank you for being you. Thank you for being happy, and true to yourself, and strong. You are so, so strong.

I bet I’m amazing.
